Description
Panels for interior use (furniture, bulkheads, floorings) and external use made with a core of Okoumè (Gabon) marine plywood veneered with Mahogany having a thickness of mm. 0.6, 1.0, 2.0 in accordance with the final use of the plywood. Mahogany throughout plywood are used in the production of bottoms, sterns and superstructures of motor yachts still made of wood. Plywood having special structural compositions (both right angles and isotropic) and specially selected quality veneer are used for bottoms and decks to refit “cult” runabouts RIVA and similar. The available finishing are:
- smooth;
- grooved;
- with white wood insert;
- with black wood insert;
- with black rubber insert.
- with white rubber insert.
Botanical name
Entandrophragma Cylindricum it belongs to the family of Meliaceae.
Growth area
West and East Africa.
Technical characteristic
Heartwood has a medium to dark reddish-brown colour: its characteristic is a well defined ribbon striped figure on quartered surfaces. Has a peculiar cedar-like scent when freshly cut or planed/sanded. The timber is liable to ring or cup shakes.
The grain is interlocked or wavy and the texture is fairly fine.
Seasoning
It dries fairly rapidly with a marked tendency to distort. Quarter cut material is less liable to degrade. It allowed to dry moderately slowly the degrade is not severe.
There is medium movement in service.
Specific gravity
Weight varies from 560 – 700 kg./m3 with an average of 650 kg./m3. S.G. 0,65
Durability
The wood is durable, the sapwood liable to attack by powder post beetle, and the heartwood is moderately resistant. It is extremely resistant to preservative treatment and resistant to decay.
Uses and manufacturing
Furniture and cabinetmaking, high-class exterior and interior joinery, flooring, boat building and planking, musical instruments, sport goods and general construction works.
Selected logs used for plywood manufacture and sliced for decorative veneers.
