Description

Maple wood processed by Nord Compensati comes from the northeastern regions of the United States and the southeast of Canada.
It is strong and shock resistance, giving excellent results when treated with mordant, fillers, varnishes and in woodworking processes.
Pre-bore for nailing or screwing.
Selected stocks are rotary cut to produce bird’s eye maple.

Botanical name

Acer Campestre it belongs to the family of Aceraceae.

Growth area

Throughout Europe from southern Sweden to Asia Minor.

Technical characteristics

Creamy white when fresh felled. Generally with straight grain but often curly or wavy grain is present. Fine texture.

Seasoning

It dries slowly without degrade but it is inclined to stain. The original white colour is preserved by kiln drying rapidly and carefully. There is small movement in service.

Specify Gravity

With 15% moisture content the weight is about 650 kg./m3. S.G. 0,65.

Durability

The heartwood is not durable: the sapwood is subject to attack by common furniture beetle and is permeable for preservation treatment while the heartwood is resistant.

Uses and manufacturing

Excellent turnery wood, it is used for domestic woodware, furniture and joinery work. Selected logs are sliced for highly decorative veneers for panelling.
